6 Week Rugby sessions with Barney completed!
The children finished up their 6 week Rugby sessions with Barney on Weds 06.03.2019. They had great fun learning the rules and playing. The smaller children in Junior & Senior Infants also go to play.

Pancake Tasting Morning for Pancake Tuesday 05th March 2019
The children were very lucky to have a tasting session for Pancake Tuesday where they were given pancakes and got to try all of the different toppings. Thank you to all the volunteers who set up and served the children and who tidied up after.
Enigineers Week 2-8th March 2019
This week is Engineers week across the country in schools. We will be completing challenges and workshops in school throughout the week to celebrate this.

Our Sale of work and open day is 06th April. We are seeking donations from the community for items for the sale of work. Please click on the attached link for full list of items. We are ready to accept donations now and parents/community members can drop items to the school.
Bagpack Fundraiser - We have our Bagpack fundraiser on Friday 29th/30th March in Dunnes Stores Bridgewater and we still have some slots that need to be filled. Please contact the school office or a parent rep if you or a family member can volunteer your time for any of the slots. (Friday 29th 2-4pm & 4-6pm need to be filled) and Sat 30th (10-12, 12-2pm need to be filled)
Tesco Blue Tokens - We are in Tesco Arklow as a charity for the Tesco community fund. Please remind your friends and family members to support us if they can.
Aldi Play Rugby Poster - We nearly have our Aldi Play Rugby Poster filled - Please ask all friends and family members to request stickers when shopping in Aldi for the school. There are great prizes to be won but we also receive water bottles/ bag and balls if we submit a full poster.

Reconcillation & Bowl Burning Ceremony - Friday 01st March 2019
Pupils from the senior room had a Reconciliation and Bowl Burning Ceremony in our new classroom on Friday with Fr. Byrne.
Pupils were asked to burn away the negative things they wished to leave behind and to write down about the positive things they wanted to replace them with and to leave it on the religion table.
First Penance Mass - 27th Feb 2019
Pupils who are set to make their First Holy Communion in May had their First Penance mass last week in Barnisky Church with Fr Byrne.
Senior Room - Our New Cosy Reading Corner
Some pictures of our new Cosy reading corner in the new senior classroom. Pupils are getting the chance to relax and read in lovely comfortable surroundings.

Glendalough Confirmation Retreat - Thurs 28th Feb
Our 5th & 6th Class pupils had their Confirmation Retreat in Glendalough with students from Ballycoog National School.
Our tour was lead by Fr. Pat from the Tearmann Spirituality Centre.
The retreat was based around Nature, St Kevin’s life in Glendalough and Spirituality.
The weather was brillant for the day and the children had a great time.
We would like to thank Fr. Pat and the Tearmann Spirituality Centre for having us.
Aldi Play Rugby Competition - We are Halfway there!!
Aldi are giving primary schools a chance to win €50,000 to develop a school’s playing facility. Our large poster that we received has been hung in the hall of the school and we are delighted to report that we have filled the stickers to the halfway line!
We don’t have much more to go to be in with a chance of winning the prize but even if we do not win the main prize, just for entering a full sheet we will receive an Aldi Play Rugby kit bag, 4 rugby balls and a set of Aldi Play Rugby water bottles.
The promotion is finished on 07th April .
We can do this!!!

Bagpack Fundraiser - Dunnes Stores 29th/30th
We are holding a Bagpack fundraiser on March 29th/30th at Dunnes Stores Arklow. We are looking for volunteers to fill time slots throughout the day to help us raise as much money as we can. Please contact your class rep or the school office if you can help on the days in any way.
All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used towards a new laptop trolley which will charge and store our laptops safely. This will be a huge benefit to pupils to have laptops at hand charged and ready to use at all times.
All family members once over the age of 14 can volunteer to bagpack on the day.
Food Dudes - Phase 2 (11-15th Feb)
Pupil have received their certs for completing the food dudes phase 1 programme. We are asking all parents/guardians to try to keep up the encouragement of the children bring fruit and veg to school for their snacks/lunches. Phase 2 is now beginning.
Bord Bia are rewarding the hard work of our school’s pupils by providing a special supply of fruit and vegetables for five days in February.
This will commence on Monday 11th February and run until Friday 15th.
We are encouraging all the children to take part.
CPR Day with Polly - Friday 08th Feb
The children got the chance to do some CPR awareness and training with Polly today. Everyone enjoyed themselves and learned some valuable information that could hopefully save a life.
From the money received and a school donation we were able to give Polly a donation towards Conary Community First Responders as a thank you.

Aldi Play Rugby Competetion
Aldi are currently the official supermarket of the IRFU. They are giving primary schools a chance to win €50,000 to develop a school’s playing facility to encourage children to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
We have received a large poster to hang in the school which needs to be filled with 300 stickers. For every €30 spent in-store at your local you will receive Aldi Play Rugby Stickers. We are encouraging all pupils, families and friends to collect the stickers and bring them into school to stick on our poster.
Once the poster is filled we need to answer the question at the bottom and return to Aldi to be entered in the competition.
Others items that can be won are:
€2,500 voucher for sports and training equipment to a school in each province
A training session with Paul O’ Connell in our school, plus a set of new jerseys and an Aldi Play Rughy Kit
Every school that enters with a fully completed poster will get an Aldi Play Rugby kit bag, 4 rugby balls and a set of Aldi Play Rugby water bottles sent to the school.

Confirmation Retreat 28th Feb - Glendalough
Our 5th and 6th Classes will be attending a Confirmation Retreat with Ms Greene in Glendalough on February 28th. Pupils will be departing from the school and all will be within school hours. The cost of the bus will be €7.00 per pupil, the school will be subsidizing the rest of the cost of the bus.
Please ensure all children are wearing suitable footwear and warm clothing.

Service of Light Ceremony (8th May) /Alb fitting (15th May)
The Service of Light Ceremony for Confirmation pupils will take place on Wednesday 8th of May @ 07.30 pm in Avoca Church. The children will need their Baptismal candle or another candle for this Ceremony. Alb fitting will take place on Weds 15th May @ 01.30 pm in the school. Should parents wish to be present for the fitting, please inform the school office or class teacher.
€5 will be required by all Confirmation pupils to cover the cost of printing booklets and for the flowers for the Ceremony. This will be collected next week and needs to be in by Friday 25th January.
Ms. Greene will be speaking with 5th/6th class pupils in relation to the Drugs/Alcohol Pledge next week. Sheets will be issued for at home.

European Championship Pro 14 Cup visits Scoil San Eoin
Barney Hynes visited the school Weds 09th January with the European Championship Pro 14 Cup for the children to view and hold. There was great excitement as Barney explained the details.

Confirmation Enrolment Ceremony
The date for our 5th & 6th Class Confirmation Enrolment ceremony is scheduled for Friday 01st Feb @ 02.00 pm in Scoil San Eoin. All parents/guardians and family members are welcome to attend. Sponsors are also welcome to attend but it is not essential for them to be present.
Parents should be preparing for the next steps for their child’s confirmation over the coming months - See below some further information:
Your Child will be need a candle for the Ceremony of light. Their baptismal candle is preferable but if not available a thick cream/white candle similar to style & size of baptismal candle can be used instead.
Child’s sponsor will need to be chosen by Friday 11th Jan
Child’s Confirmation name will need to be decided
Parents should also speak to their children about the drugs/alcohol pledge that they will be taking for Confirmation. Lessons will be completed in class in the coming weeks.
