Ending Term 2 with an Easter Egg Hunt!!

Our pupils were treated to an Easter hunt to mark the end of Term 2 and to get ready for the Easter break. The weather was glorious and they all had so much fun trying to find the hidden eggs. There were lots of happy faces when the chocolate was located. This is one of the many benefits of fundraising efforts which pay for these treats for the children during the year.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter, Enjoy the break and we will see you all back at school on the 28th April.

Food dudes Program complete for our Junior Room

Well done to our Junior Room pupils who received their certs yesterday for completing the Food dudes program last week in school.

Food Dudes Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of fruit and vegetables in a healthy lifestyle. The goal of Food Dudes Week is to reinforce the healthy habits that were introduced to the children during Food Dudes intervention stage also to introduce it to new pupils who previously haven’t taken part last year at Scoil San Eoin.

Food Dudes Week is an opportunity to celebrate our schools healthy eating culture and to get the wider community involved in the programme.

Parental engagement is an important component of Food Dudes Week and it is an opportunity for parents to get involved in the healthy eating celebrations.

Please continue to encourage the children to try these foods at home!

Well done everyone!!

Halloween Activity Day (Part 2 - Avoca Red Kite Walk & visit to Avoca Handweavers)

Thursday the 24th of October 33 pupils from  both the Junior & Senior Room met at the Avoca Car park for our first Halloween Activity Day. The group was divided into two groups by staff.
Ms.Nuzum took her group to visit the Avoca Handweaver Mill and Ms.Fitzgerald took the other half and went on a lovely forest walk starting at the old Avoca Primary school. Both groups spent 35/40 minutes and swapped over once completed.  Our walk was part of our annual sponsored Halloween walk and the visit to the Handweaver Mill was part of the programme being covered in the Junior Room called Wool2Ewe. Each group was delighted to view the museum and touch all the different types of scarves on display. It was interesting to hear that the Mill was 300 years old last year.

Allen, our tour guide, brought each group into the factory area and the pupils got a talk on the history and the making of weaving. It was interesting to see and hear the difference between the wooden weave and the automatic machines.

It was a wonderful morning with lots of learning completed and also lots of fresh air and fun. Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to our parents who volunteered on the day and helped supervise the groups.

Wool2ewe workshop - Junior Room 11.03.2025

Monday the 10th of March, the Junior Room in Scoil San Eoin received a spinning demo from Sue and Evelyn. with the Wool2ewe programme.

Pupils from the Junior Room have been participating in the programme this year. Thank You to Sarah Rubalcava our Environmental officer in the Wicklow County Council Office.

The pupils learnt lots of interesting facts about wool, how it is 100% natural, renewable, biodegradable and sustainable.

Pupils then got to see A little science experiment which showed how natural wool doesn’t burn in comparison to synthetic wool. The pupils really enjoyed this!

A spinning wheel demonstrated how the wool from the sheep is made workable to make things. The pupils got to smell & touch wool and learned that when sheep wool is soaked in water to wash it, the ‘dirty’ water is also reusable and extremely good that has full of nutrients for seeds to grow, a form of fertilizer.

The pupils got to learn about crochet wool and got to see finished products, e.g. hats. Mittens etc. The pupils got to see an old pair of jeans reused and converted into a handbag/shopping bag.

At the end of the session there was a Q & A session.

Thank you to Sue and Evelyn for delivering a wonderful workshop for the pupils. They all really enjoyed it and learnt lots of interesting facts.

Our Junior Room interview with Postman Mr. Ollie Stapleton

Thursday the 6th of March, the Junior Room had a wonderful opportunity to interview a postman, Mr. Ollie Stapleton from Roscrea  Co. Tipperary @10am.

They heard all the about the day in the life of a postman & the pupils got to ask questions at the end of the Zoom call.

The pupils learnt about what time  Mr. Stapleton starts his work at 4.30 am & what his job entails. They heard about a lovely customer who is 88, who doesn't have a mobile phone or even internet  she receives post from her grandchildren across the world, new Zealand china etc. She gets a pink envelope from her granddaughters & a blue envelope from her grandsons, the post man is her only daily link to the outside world. She even has her own cow that she uses the milk.

He told our pupils that the day before he visited 1000 homes, he works one Saturday a month. They also got to meet his lovely dog Haka.

The boys & girls thoroughly enjoyed their interview.

A big Thank you to Mr. Ollie Stapleton.
