sponsered cycle.jpeg

We had our annual Halloween sponsored cycle on Thursday 22nd Oct 2020. Even with COVID19 Guidelines and rules in place, the day went ahead safely and was a great success! The skies were clear and the sun was shining to ensure that a great days cycling was had by all. Lots of brilliant parents came to help out on the day some cycled with the children, some parents drove in front and behind to make sure the pupils and parents were safe, others helped the younger pupils navigate their way around Cullen Park and to and from the school. The boys and girls had a fantastic day both on the 7k route and in Cullen Pk and they were very proud of their achievement. All of the benefits of extra cycling during lockdown and extra exercise programmes completed in school such as GAA/Hurling and rugby could really be seen across all classes and showed that we truly are an active school!!

Afterwards the children got to enjoy some well deserved treats and refreshments back at the school.

Thank you to all that sponsored the pupils and helped out on the day.

Cards are still being received but as soon as we have a total we will notify parents and post on our website. Again thank you, funds raised will towards much needed items for the school.

Well done all!

October in the Senior Room

October was another busy and active month in the Senior Room.

  • English - we looked at Explanation Writing and completed brilliant Halloween themed pieces. We also learned a spooky poem and Ms Greene read The Widows Broom story to us. We read the A-Z of Monsters and about the peculiar happenings at 43 Old Cemetery Rd.

  • Gaeilge - we completed the theme of Mé Féin and we have learned so much about Mé Féin and An Scoil that we were able to write brilliant profile pieces on ourselves.

  • SPHE/Religion - We began our Weaving Wellbeing Programme and found out all about the positive benefits of Wellbeing and Mindfulness. As October is the month of the Rosary we looked at the history of the Rosary and how and when to say it.

  • Maths Week - We were busy playing maths games, watching Maths Tv and surveying, tallying and recording on graphs on our chosen topic

  • Geography - We learned more about our beautiful country, concentrating on the rivers and lakes

  • Science - We did some fun slime and potion experiments with Ms Hedderman and also looked at how plants drink.

  • PE - We completed our mile a day challenge and also our Halloween Fundraiser cycle. Some of us did great running/cycling in Cullen Park and some of us did a 7km look of Ballykane! That’s as well as playing basketball and football during lunch! Phew!

  • Art - We completed some haunted Victorian houses which really look lovely in the hall.

  • Then we finished up the month by having a Halloween dress up day with treats and some dancing

Active Home week was a resounding success in Scoil San Eoin. We are so proud of all of the pupils who took on the challenge with great energy and a positive attitude. This can be difficult to do in these times so a huge thank you to all the families who videoed, took pictures s and most importantly encouraged and joined in the fun! It was so nice for the staff to see the smiling faces of the pupils, as we miss them greatly. GRANDPARENTS DAY 1.jpg

A huge thank you to all grandparents and parents who attended Grandparents Day in the school. The pupils loved having you in the school and spending time with you. Thank you also to the Parents Reps who provided teas, coffees and treats on the day. The pupils were delighted to show off some of the games they play in school, at home, and as part of their lessons . The very active and fun loving grandparents in the senior room took part in the 10@10 exercises showing the pupils that exercise is for any age!!. The grandparents also answered questions on their childhood and school days and some brought in mementos from that time to show to pupils. All grandparents , including those who could not attend, received a certificate and card from their grandchild outlining what they loved about them.

It was a very enjoyable day and it was clear from the cards and art activities that the pupils created and wrote, that their Grandparents are a much loved and important part of their lives.
