Dragons Den in Scoil San Eoin!!

A Scoil San Eoin version of Dragons Den was held in the Senior Class today. Ciaran Coughlan and Bernard Brennan, two local entrepreneurs and business people, were invited into the school to join Ms Greene in being a 'dragon' . It was very interesting and exciting for both the teams of pupils and the 'dragons'. A huge thank you to Bernard and Ciaran for their time and input.

Six teams of pupils had to come into the 'den' and present their ideas for the Junior Entrepreneur Programme.  Each member of the team had an idea and they had to pitch their idea to the 'dragons' using PowerPoint presentations, posters, samples of ideas etc. They had to include information such as the costings, potential profit, materials they would use, how and where it would be produced/assembled, how it would be packaged and marketed and options for places it could be sold. The pupils were asked questions by the 'dragons' about their product during the presentation.

Each team did and amazing job and the 'dragons' were blown away with the pupils creativity, business sense and presentation skills. Well done all!!

Stay tuned to see which idea was chosen as the final BIG IDEA!!

Junior Entrepreneur Programme gets started!!

The Junior Entrepreneur Programme is well underway in the Senior classroom. The pupils looked at what entrepreneurship is all about. They researched national and international entrepreneurs, the companies they set up and what services/products they provide. For the second stage the class has begun to look at the traits and characteristics of an entrepreneur and their own talents and characteristics, especially those which they can bring to a team and this JEP process. They had to come up with two about themselves and then one about each member of their team. A very positive experience! They began exploring ideas within their assigned groups and are now whittling down their ideas to one per group which they will present to the Dragons on Thursday the 9th!! Exciting stuff!!

School Sports Day 2016

Each year in Scoil San Eoin we have a Sports Day. All the pupils are divided into teams of mixed classes and the theme is that each pupil does their best, encourages their teammates and has fun!!! Each pupil gets a medal for participation and we also like to present the graduating 6th class with a little going away gift. We also, present an Attendance Certificate to the pupil in each class  who has the highest attendance since September and for Sixth Class we present a beautiful  plague to the pupil that has the most days present in Scoil San Eoin from Junior Infants to Sixth class.  Huge thanks to the Parents Association and all the parents who help out on the day, whether its making the delicious treats, manning stations, gathering and setting up equipment or purchasing medals and gifts. Huge thanks also to Claire for taking these fabulous pictures!

More from Science Week - Senior Class

Here's a look at some of the other fun and interesting experiments we did during Science week! We bubbled up and over..... and also looked at why the sky is blue during the day and red/orange during sunrise and sunset. Then some of the pupils brought in and displayed their favourite experiments. Well done all!!

Rainbow Spinners - Science Week

The theme for Science week this year is LIGHT.  We have learned that 'white light' is made up of the seven colours of the rainbow and this was discovered by Isaac Newton. We can see examples of this in glass prisms, puddles, rainbows and reflection of shiny surfaces such as CDs. We made our own rainbow spinners and spun them as fast as we could so they would become white. Here's how we did!

RELIGION: REMEMBER FOR NOVEMBER

We write down our loved ones names on a piece of a paper who have passed away. We will pray and remember our loved ones for the month of November. We will pick out daily from the the Remembrance box and pray for the deceased.

Oxford Reading Tree (O.R.T)

Every Monday morning we have shared O.R.T. and many thanks to the volunteers who offer their time and services. This is a wonderful experience for all the children in Scoil San Eoin and would not be possible without the parental involvement.

Look at what else we've been up to!!

Halloween Dress Up!

We had lots of fun playing in our Halloween costumes!

Maths Week in the Senior Room

Our 2016 Maths Week was so much fun. We did lots of interesting activities such as target boards, puzzles, cipher wheels, graphs, shape puzzles and had a look at how maths is used in magic! The highlight of the week was our fun day on Thursday. We completed three stations- Maths Trail down the village, maths games online and a school data survey for our graphs, and more fun puzzles and games. Thanks to Ms Griffiths and the parent volunteers for all their help!
