Storm Emma - School Closure

Due to Storm Emma we recently had to close the school. The school and surrounding grounds were covered in a blanket of snow.

Thank you to everyone who helped over the weekend to get the school ready for Monday - There are too many to mention but a special thanks as without your help the school would of remained closed and another valuable day wasted.

Here are some photos sent in by Mandie Kinsella which capture the snow covered school nicely!

1st/2nd and 3rd class working hard as Engineers!

!st/2nd and 3rd class build bridges using a variety of materials. Their bridges have to be strong enough to carry at least 20 coins. See their fantastic work as they plan, design and build their bridges.

Engineering week at Scoil San Eoin-Designing earthquake resistant structures.

Children in JI/SI helped 4th/5th/6th class make jelly to form  an earthquake area base.

4th/5th/6th class planned, designed and made structures using marshmallows and jellies. They had to design structures that were earthquake resistant (tested on the jelly base).

Children carried out tests to investigate what shape was the strongest-square/cube or triangle/pyramid.

Senior Room Art

February has been a very busy month in the Senior room, beginning with a great night at the Peace Proms in the RDS. Over the following weeks the pupils have studied several different artists and created art pieces of their own. Everyone then worked really hard on an art project of their own - we had lots of interesting artists chosen and great presentations by all involved. Very well done to all in the Senior room.

Engineering week at Scoil San Eoin.

Children will be doing lots of fun activities as part of Engineering week. They will be designing and making marshmallow towers, they will make jelly and design a earthquake proof building that can withstand the shaking of jelly!!

All children will be participating in an engineering challenge as follows:

Design a car from recyclable materials or items they already have at home. The car should travel at least one metre and for JI-2nd class this car can be pushed to propel it  forward. However the older classes can choose an energy source to power their car eg. a balloon attached to car so the air from the balloon can propel it forward.
