Active Home Week (Scoil San Eoin) April 27th-May 3rd 2020

Active Home week was a resounding success in Scoil San Eoin. We are so proud of all of the pupils who took on the challenge with great energy and a positive attitude. This can be difficult to do in these times so a huge thank you to all the families who videoed, took pictures s and most importantly encouraged and joined in the fun! It was so nice for the staff to see the smiling faces of the pupils, as we miss them greatly. We were even happy to see that some exercise doubled up as a helpful job such as grass cutting and litter picking!!!Have a look at the beautiful photos below & all the wonderful videos on the next post, which not only show the pupils in action but also the beautiful surroundings of Redcross.

Resources/Tips and Websites for parents to use during School Closure March 2020

parents info.jpg

Dear Parents,

Due to the unplanned closure, we have tried our best to organise as much as possible and sent pupils home on Thursday with work packs for the next 2 weeks. There are also some useful tips and websites below which have great resources that parents can avail of for free to use while pupils are off.

During the closure, teachers may also send some work home through Aladdin email therefore please also check your emails. These will be issued from Aladdin, please remember you cannot reply to these emails.

  • The best thing you can do is take out their maths book and go over old topics. Especially tables!!! Pick a topic every few days and print out a few worksheets for them to do.  Revision is best here.

  • Join Mathlethics. This is a website packed full of maths games. Children can play against each other and work on all the skills that they will have already covered this year https://login.mathletics.com

  • Pick out the next 2 reading comprehensions in their English reader. Listen to them read. Get them to do the topics in a new copy for home. Have a read over it yourself when they're done. Spend a week on each story.

  • Read, Read, Read. This is the best time for kids to read as much as they can. Pick a good book. Download a summary for yourself. Most books have book club type questions for each chapter online. Have a chat with the kids about the books.

  • If your children are older, there are some excellent websites for coding. I use scratch when coding with the kids. There's loads and loads of tutorials online https://scratch.mit.edu

  • Twinkl are offering a free month to parents. This website is incredible. It is full of printable for everything from pre schoolers upwards. You will find so much here https://www.twinkl.ie. Use the code IRLTWINKLHELPS

  • Pick a topic and get the kids to research and put together a project. This could be done the old fashioned way or using powerpoint or Prezi https://prezi.com

  • Scoilnet Primary is another website with a wealth of worksheets and topics for researching. https://www.scoilnet.ie

  • www.gonoodle.com - Physical Activity website

  • http://dabbledoomusic.com//parents-subscription-full-access - Music website

  • Please click the attached link for a home activities worksheet also that can be used

Thank You.

Food Dudes Week (23rd -27th March 2020)

Food-Dudes-Website-Picture.jpg

Food Dudes Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of fruit and vegetables in a healthy lifestyle. The goal of Food Dudes Week is to reinforce the healthy habits that were introduced to the children during Food Dudes intervention stage last year at Scoil San Eoin.

There will be 5 days of fruit and vegetable tasting for all pupils.

Food Dudes Week is an opportunity to celebrate our schools healthy eating culture and to get the wider community involved in the programme.

Parental engagement is an important component of Food Dudes Week and it is an opportunity for parents to get involved in the healthy eating celebrations.
