Lots of work going on outside the school & in the garden!

Thomas & Fiach have been busy doing lots of work outside the school and in the school garden. We have a beautiful new fairy garden to greet our visitors when they come to the school & for the children to enjoy.

Our bird friends have not been left out and we have now 2 new feeders.

We have also planted a new cherry blossom tree which will look beautiful in time to replace the bushes previously there.

There is lots of imaginative play taking place in our new outdoor play area and the children have lots of toys to play with in their kitchen/toy areas.

Our tyre planters are all getting an uplift as well and some of the pupils were decorating these today in the garden.

Our greenhouse has also been busy and the children have been busy planting vegetables. There will be lots more planted in the coming weeks.

We are very lucky to have such a beautiful school outdoor space with lot’s for the children to play with.

Thank you to Thomas & Fiach for all their hard work and for having the school looking so well!

Full School painting project!

Our Junior & Senior Room pupils were busy today giving our tyres a paint & uplift for the summer. It was bitterly cold but everyone made a great effort and got lots done. We all agree though they done a great job and the area now looks lovely & colourful.

Well done everyone!

Summer Fair @ Scoil San Eoin

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have decided to hold a Summer Fair at Scoil San Eoin. This is an opportunity to raise some much needed funds for the school as we have spent quite a lot from fundraising this year with the new outdoor space for the children and with supplementing buses & activities for the children throughout the year. We want to be able to help alleviate the cost for parents as much as we can next year as well so we have decided to hold the above event in the school grounds on Saturday 6th May as our last fundraiser for the school year.

This is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase our beautiful school and to bring the community together.

In the lead up to the fair & on the day there will be lots of activities and we are seeking as many volunteers as we can get to help out. Events like this are only successful if organised and if we have the much needed help. With this in mind if you are willing or are available to help out in the lead up & on the day in any way possible please complete the google document sent Friday 10th March via email and press submit.

If you have any further suggestions for stalls/activity ideas for the fair please contact a parent rep

A small flyer has also gone home with the children in their bags on Wednesday 08th March for your fridge to keep as a reminder for the date & time.

Any help would be really appreciated,

Thank You

Linda Greene

  •  Food Dudes Week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of fruit and vegetables in a healthy lifestyle. • There will be 5 days of fruit and vegetable tasting for all pupils.

  • Food Dudes Week is an opportunity to celebrate our schools healthy eating culture and to get the wider community involved in the programme.

  • Parental engagement is an important component of Food Dudes Week and it is an opportunity for parents to get involved in the healthy eating celebrations.

Please take note of the below during food dudes week:

  • You may wish to adjust the amount of food in your child’s lunchbox during the dates listed above, to accommodate these additional foods.

  • Your child will automatically be included in this programme. However, if for any reason you do not want your child to take part (e.g. if they are allergic to a certain type of fruit or vegetables), we would be grateful if you could inform the school.

  • For further information on the programme and healthy eating ideas, please see our website; www.fooddudes.ie

As part of the Food Dudes programme there is another programme running called the Healthy Ireland Pilot  - Please see attached flyer with information for parents

Irish libraries, Children’s Books Ireland, NALA, booksellers and others are partnering once again to get the whole country reading this month in the lead up to Ireland Reads Day on Saturday, 25th of February.

We are asking everyone to pledge to ‘squeeze in a read’ – whether that’s reading a book, a newspaper, a comic – whatever works grabs your interest!

We have made a pledge as a school that all pupils from 1st – 6th class will read for 15 minutes per day, each afternoon between 2pm and 3pm, commencing from Tuesday 21st to Fri 24th Feb and will encourage all parents and pupils to also read for at least 15 minutes on Sat 25th as well as part of the initiative above.

Please take some pictures over the next few days of your child and family reading and send them to us on our email @ schoolofficeredcross@gmail.com before Monday 27th Feb to allow us to send these on and share them on our website

Another Sneek peek of our outdoor play area before it is finished!

The children are very excited at Scoil San Eoin as we are in the final stages of our outdoor play area and the space is nearly finished for full use by the children.

We have something for everyone, with a chalk board, whiteboard, play kitchen, sandbox and there are a few more bits still to add. It promised to be an amazing space for the children to play in and we are so lucky to have it.

Thank you to Thomas & Fiach for all their hard work building and getting the space ready to use.

You may also have noticed that the outside of the area is being painted in a beautiful design by one of our very talented parents, Sarah Manson. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished product and it has turned our playground into a beautiful colourful space. Thank you also to Sarah for spending so much time on the project.

Once we are all finished we will post the final photos but we know that the pupils are going to be very happy playing in this space for many years to come.

Here is a further sneak peek of the space before finishing!

Our flowers around the school are beginning to bloom and it really feels like Spring is in the air and the weather is improving. We also have some new visitors at the front off the school in our flowerbeds and a fairy garden has now joined the space.

Grandparents Day

What a special day we had for Grandparents Day! We had lots of VIPs turn up to interact with the pupils today, tell them about their time in school and mingle with some old friends. Today also gave the pupils an opportunity to show the Grandparents how they learn now, and how we use all of the ‘mod cons’ in our teaching and learning in the classroom. Grandparents also got a nice cup of tea and some artwork to bring home with them as a memento. Many thanks to all that helped out, sent in photos, baked and came in to help on the day. We are already looking forward to the next one!
