Halloween Sponsored Cycle Event 2022 - A fantastic success once again!

Our annual school Halloween Sponsored Cycle took place on Weds 26th Oct. We were so fortunate with the weather after a wet start to the week but on the day it turned out that we got lucky and we had some decent weather ensuring that the cycle would be a great day.

We added a more fun element this year and gave pupils the chance to go to Cullen Park on any kind of wheels and also that they could choose to decorate the item they are travelling if they wished. Pupils arrived on the day on lots of different wheels and had fantastic fun on their walk to and around Cullen Park. They also had great fun at the park whilst there. The 3 pupils who were given certs and a goody park for the best dressed wheels were Ruairí Flannery, Logan O’ Reilly and Theo Devine Fagan so very well done to the 3 boys!

We also had the very serious task of cycling 7k to Ballykane and a small group of pupils braved this one along with Ms Greene and the parents who volunteered and helped out on the day. The children well and truly proved that we are a very active school and faced the task of a long cycle head on!

Everyone headed back to the school then for some much needed refreshments and Halloween treat bags!

The day was a fantastic success achieved only by the help and volunteering of our parents who were road marshals, who cycled alongside our pupils, who walked and supervised our smaller pupils and who volunteered afterwards to provide refreshments. Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day, we couldn’t of done it without you.

Thank you also to our parent reps who helped in organizing the event and provided the treat bags for our pupils.

It was so lovely to get outside on the day and have some much needed fresh air for everyone!

We are still awaiting all sponsor cards to be returned to the school but once we have a final figure we will let parents know!

Again thank you to everyone for all your help and a huge well done to all our pupils and teachers for taking part in the event.

Annual Sports Day Term 21/22

We had our annual sports day at Scoil San Eoin on Tues 21st June. The weather was absolutely glorious from start to finish and their was great excitement in the air with all the children.

The day started with a fun swim at Coral Leisure Centre Arklow where the children got to play on the centers obstacle course. We then returned to the school by bus and had some much needed food to keep us going.

The pupils were all divided into different teams and took part in lots of games and different activities with all the stations set up for the day. The children completed everything with great enthusiasm and all done brilliantly for their respective teams.

Overall it was a fantastic day and a great end to a great year at Scoil San Eoin for all the children.

Our raffle was held for lines sold as part of our end of year fundraiser and there was great excitement as there were some excellent prizes up for grabs!!! Well done to all our winners and thank you to all our parents/pupils/ their families and community members for your support in making our fundraiser such a successful one.

We had a Bric or Brak stall set up with donations received for our car boot sale and the children and parents could buy whatever items they wished on the day..

Thank you to all our parent reps and parents who helped out and came on the day.

Wishing you all a very safe, healthy and happy Summer and we will see you all on August 29th for another year!

Senior Room Tour 2022

A fantastic day was had by all the senior room gang on their Alive Outside School Tour in Kilruddery Estate in Bray. The pupils got to undertake 2 land and 2 water activities throughout the day. The weather played ball and the sun was shining!

First up was some bush crafting where the pupils constructed an outdoor structure and made it comfortable and cosy. They had to work as teams and they could only use what nature provided around them. They built some fantastic structures and they were very handy when it came to eating their morning snack!

Next they all complete a portion of the Hell and Back/ Irelands Fittest Family course where they were put through their paces, and may have gotten just a little muddy (see pics!). All the pupils showed great team spirit as they encouraged each other through the obstacle course.

Following that, they took to the water in kayaks and had some fun on the lake…Some taking the leisurely approach and some giving the O’Donovan brothers a run for their money in the races!!

Final they got to experience more of Irelands Fittest family as they squealed their way down the fast paced slide or jumped off the platform into the lake. They finished the day with a well earned lunch and goody bag (provided by the company). Needless to say, it was a quiet bus journey back to school as both teachers and pupils took a badly needed rest!!

As always the pupil were impeccably well behaved and were highly complimented by the instructors. We were so proud of all the pupils who had a brilliant attitude to the activities and everyone gave something a go, some pupils overcoming fears along the way. I can safely say it was a school tour to remember!

Junior Room School Tour Adventures @ Blackwater Open Farm!!

Our Junior Room School Tour this year was in the gorgeas Blackwater Open Farm in Wexford. The children were very lucky to have gotten such a beautiful day to head off on their adventure.

When everyone arrived to Blackwater Open Farm, we were given our very own Tour guide called Liam who brought us to visit all the beautiful animals. Liam gave us all a brief history about the background of each animal and what they like and dislike. The children really enjoyed feeding the animals and were very lucky that they got to spend some time petting each of them.

Afterwards, the boys and girls got to sit down and handle little bunnies and hamsters which they loved doing.

We had some were very brave children on the day who let a bird perch on their heads!

The children got to see a visual display which showed the step by step process to hatching chicks and which everyone found super interesting!

They also got to meet Jessie, the milking cow and they all got to have turns milking the cow.

Lunch was yummy on the day and was enjoyed in the glorious sunshine with the children gettting to enjoy their chocolate treat afterwards.

After lunch there was lots of adventure and the children got to play on the indoor tractor track, Wendy house, Pedal go-karting, climbing frames, zip-line and playground and plenty of tired little children afterwards!!

They all had a fantastic day and were so well behaved. Overall a brilliant way to end the school year.

Special mention to Cheryl who went along on the day to help Ms Nuzum out. Thank you.

Our pupils from the Senior Room had the very serious task of cycling 7k to Ballykane. Everyone with this group also got some much rewarded time in the park also after all their hard work. Lots happening in the month of April in the Junior Room!

Since we returned to school after the Easter holidays the children have completed lots of great work around our SESE theme of the month of Space. Everyone (including Ms. Fitzgerald) learned lots of new information about Space and I’m sure they will surprise you with their knowledge. We also spent time on the measures topic in Maths with lots of work done on Time and Money - 1st and 2nd class even set up a shop in the classroom for everyone to practise using coins. We also spent some time planting cress and sunflower seeds which we hope will continue to grow on our windowsill and eventually make it out to the school garden. We hope you enjoy looking through all our photographs.

Skip n Rope

Following our successful skipping workshop last year with Skip n Rope we have been given access to some tutorial videos for this school closure. The children all thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and skipping is one of the most popular activities at break time. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your skipping and practise a new skill!

GAA resumes

We are delighted to have GAA coach Darren Hayden return to Scoil San Eoin to coach all classes for the coming weeks. Fingers crossed for some dry weather to ensure we can make the most of this great opportunity.

PE Equipment

An end of term sort and tidy of our PE equipment. The children get so much use out of this sports equipment at break times and we have been lucky the weather has been kind to us this term to allow us get our daily exercise and fresh air.

Daily Mile Flag raised

Following our completion of the Daily Mile challenge we were delighted to receive a nice surprise of the colorful flag in the post. It is now flying proudly on our flag poles at the front of the school!

Active Breaks Challenge Complete!!

We always feel best and work our hardest when we take some movement breaks in the classroom. Thanks to Zoe Patterson from FYI dance studio who has provided us with some great tutorials remotely which we were able to utilise for active breaks. Zoe has taught us how important it is to exercise our bodies in order to keep our minds healthy and strong and more able to concentrate on our school work. Of course we still love some gonoodle and runs on our active walkway also.

Christmas in the Junior Room

It has been a lovely month leading up to Christmas in the Junior Room. We are very proud of all the work the children have covered this term so we had lots of nice activities throughout the month to get us all excited for Christmas.

Our theme this month was Winter and of course Christmas with some lovely artwork completed on these themes. The children learned all about the Arctic and Antarctic in SESE looking at the climate and animals who live there. We even compared the height of an Emperor Penguin to some children in the class!! We also learned all about the expeditions undertaken by the famous explorer Tom Crean. While learning about Winter we decided to help the birds which arrive to the trees outside our window by making bird feeders from scratch…..we had mixed success with this experiment-but that’s what’s it’s all about!! Well done to 1st and 2nd class who completed and presented projects on Christmas around the world, a great variety of countries were chosen so it made for interesting listening.

Thanks to Dolores and her craft expertise we made some lovely Santa’s from recycled plastic bottles and also the fabulous flower arrangements which I’m sure are filling your homes with lovely Christmas smells. The children remained active as always in December continuing our run a day where possible, recommencing GAA training and active breaks in the classroom with a festive twist.

We practised really hard to learn some Christmas songs and poems in English and Gaeilge. The children gave a great performance of these in the classroom and we hope you enjoyed watching on SeeSaw.

Have a very Happy Christmas and we look forward to listening to all your santa stories in the New Year.
